John "Jack" R. Vissing

He has extensive experience in zoning matters, has authored zoning ordinances, represented numerous zoning boards and also other presenters and demonstrators to zoning and appeals cases. He has tried personal injury cases for plaintiffs and has practiced in the area of insurance defense. Jack is corporate counsel for many small and medium sized companies and has performed much litigation over the business matters they require. In recent years, Jack has worked with estate planning and administration as well as developing a workers compensations practice with other attorneys who have developed a statewide practice.

Jack is the only son of former Mayor Richard L. Vissing and his wife Edna, is a lifelong resident of Jeffersonville, and has been active in civic affairs since birth. He graduated from DePauw University in 1970 and taught school at Jeffersonville High School by day while he attended the University of Louisville School of Law at night, graduating in 1976. During college, he also served on the staff of Congressman Lee H. Hamilton. Since 1976, he has had a diverse law practice with a focus on litigation of both civil and criminal matters.

Jack serves on the Indiana Supreme Court's Judges and Lawyers Assistance Committee (JLAP) and has been Chair of that body for three terms. JLAP provides mental assistance to judges and lawyers for disabilities or impairments. He has also served on the LifeSpring Community Mental Health Center for nearly 20 years as a Board Member and founding member of the LifeSpring Foundation, Jack is a charter member of Leadership of Southern Indiana, an elder in his church, and remains active in many civic affairs.

Jack has been named Clark County's Best Attorney for two consecutive years (2012, 2013) by the News & Tribune in its annual Readers' Choice Edition. His greatest joy is the satisfaction of having helped people in need.
